Sara all.
House of Representatives spokesperson Princess Abante gave this tongue-in-cheek reaction in a press conference Friday, June 20 after learning that Vice President Sara Duterte left for a trip to Australia in order to join a rally to call for the freedom of her detained father.
The remark Abante gave was a play on sana all--an local slang expression that indicates desire for whatever another person is having.
Turning serious, Abante added: Hindi ko alam if that is an official travel or a personal travel. But lagi't lagi, bilang halal na opisyal ng bayan, yung oras mo na ginugugol sa loob at labas ng ating bansa, at ito man ay pang personal o opisyal, dapat para sa taumbayan hindi sa personal na interes.
(I don’t know if that was an official or personal trip. But as always, as a duly elected public official, the time you spend both inside and outside the country, whether for personal or official reasons, should be for the people, not for personal interest.)
Para hindi nasasayang ang tiwala, ang pondo at binigay na mandato ng Pilipino sa atin (So that the trust, the funds, and the mandate given to us by the Filipino people are not wasted), the lawyer-spokesperson further said.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) said Friday that Vice President Duterte's trip to Australia was personal in nature. It was only last week when the lady official returned home from a trip to Malaysia.
Her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, 79, is being detained by the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague in the Netherlands.
It was back on March 11 when the ex-president was arrested by International Police (Interpol) members in Manila for a charge of crimes against humanity in connection with his bloody war on drugs, which allegedly killed over 30,000 people.
