The House of Representatives will implement an innovation for its executive course for neophyte or first-time congressmen this year, Secretary General Reginald Velasco bared.
Speaking in an interview Thursday, June 19, Velasco said that two three-day seminars will be held starting next week for the benefit of rookie solons. And there will be many in the upcoming 20th Congress.
Based on our records, we have 97 first termers, you know, first-time congressmen. So it's quite a big, big number, Velasco said.
The first three-day seminar will be held from June 23 to 25, while the second will take place from July 7 to 9. Both will be carried out within the House of Representatives.
And we are also introducing a new concept here, said the top civilian official of the legislative chamber.
We have congressmen, active congressmen of the 19 congress and of the 20th congress to share their experiences, live, live experiences, no? So there'll be sharing of these experiences, he said.
According to Velasco, the active solons will field questions from the first-termer so that it's not all about academic discussions during the seminars.
There will be live interaction between a congressman, former congressman and active 20th congress, congressmen, to interact with them, to share whatever experiences they have, he added.
It's really, it's talking with the first-termers, telling them about the ABC's of legislation, you know, how the bill becomes a law, you know, the processes, he further said.
Velasco says the executive course is also open to returnies, or former House members who have launched a successful comeback during the 2025 mid-term elections.
There are 317 House members in the 20th Congress.
