Police have arrested two men for allegedly killing a barangay councilor or kagawad in Barangay Palca, Tuao, Cagayan on Thursday morning, June 19.
Police Col. Mardito G. Anguluan, Cagayan police provincial director, said the suspects were intercepted in a hot-pursuit operation in Barangay Bagumbayan, Tuao, a few hours after the incident.
Police identified the victim as Rodrigo Dupitas, 58, kagawad of Barangay Angang, Tuao.
Investigation said Dupitas and his wife were on their way home on board a modified tricycle from the new market site in Tuao when the suspects riding a motorcycle approached and shot the victim at 7:55 a.m.
Dupitas was wounded in the head and neck and was declared dead in a hospital.
The victim’s wife was unhurt and described the suspects – the driver wearing a red-colored sweat shirt and the gunman a black shirt. Both were wearing helmets.
Police pursued the suspects using these descriptions.
Anguluan said the suspects whose names were withheld were residents of Zamboanga del Norte.
Suspects are subject to medical and paraffin examinations and face appropriate cases.
