No tropical cyclone, but 'habagat' to bring weekend rains — PAGASA
While no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country in the coming days, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is forecast to bring rains over several areas starting this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, June 20.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the habagat will begin to affect Palawan by Saturday, June 21, bringing rain showers and thunderstorms.
Western Mindanao, including Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and parts of Soccsksargen, may also experience rainfall due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
From Sunday to Tuesday, June 22 to 24, monsoon rains are expected to affect the western sections of Central Luzon, particularly Zambales and Bataan, as well as Southern Luzon areas such as most of Mimaropa, Cavite, and Batangas.
Central Visayas and parts of the Negros Island Region may also experience monsoon rains rain during this period.
Scattered monsoon rain showers may gradually extend to Metro Manila and other parts of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and the Visayas, Estareja added.
“Magdala ng payong kapag lalabas ng bahay sa mga susunod na araw doon sa nabanggit natin na mga lugar (Bring an umbrella when going outside in the coming days, especially in the areas we mentioned),” he advised the public.
Meanwhile, Estareja said no tropical cyclone is expected to develop or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next five days.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms during the forecast period.
