ILOILO CITY – The province of Capiz has recorded the first positive case of monkeypox (Mpox).
The Capiz Provincial Health Office (CPHO) under Dr. Ramon Alex Nolasco confirmed this in a statement on Friday, June 20.
According to the CPHO, the case was confirmed through a laboratory test conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
The sample was transmitted through the Western Visayas regional office of the Department of Health (DOH).
Two test results were released. The other tested negative and five others were suspected cases.
“The confirmed case is currently under home isolation and is being appropriately managed by the concerned local health office (LHO),” CPPO said.
“The patient’s skin lesions are reported to be almost fully healed, and all identified close contacts have been traced, assessed, and monitored,” the CPPO added.
The administration of Gov. Fredenil Castro is in close coordination with the health offices of the 17 local government units (LGUs) as well as the five government hospitals and Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTS).
