Scattered rain showers expected over parts of Mindanao, Southern Luzon due to ITCZ, easterlies
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, June 19 said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over several areas in Mindanao and Southern Luzon.
Over the next 24 hours, light to occasionally heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi due to the ITCZ, a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Meanwhile, the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Aurora and Quezon.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez also noted that the Low-Pressure Area located 360 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and is not expected to affect any part of the country.
The weather disturbance is also forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the next few hours.
