Present at the event were UP Diliman Chancellor Atty. Edgardo Carlo Vistan II, UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Jerwin Agpaoa, Pride PH Coalition representatives, and other QC government officials.
These efforts are matched by the unwavering initiatives of the Diliman Gender Office in promoting activities that address contemporary concerns of our stakeholders. And now we come to this event, we formally welcome, in advance of our actual Pride event next week, the LGBTQ community once again amidst the rise of anti-women and anti-gender sentiments, and in support of our common vision for a bigger, safer, and bolder right. Here in UP, the heart of our values is honor and excellence,” UP Diliman Chancellor Atty. Edgardo Carlo Vistan II said during his opening speech.
The Pride PH Coalition Convenor, Vince Liban, said that they anticipate the participation of over 250,000 members and supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community, surpassing last year’s 220,000 participants.
Meanwhile, Mayor Joy Belmonte said the LGU has been supporting the LGBTQIA+ community for over 31 years.
“For decades now, Quezon City has proudly stood as a safe space and strong ally of >font-family: Gilroy; display: inline !important;>the LGBTQIA+>font-family: Gilroy;>community, even long before our administration. In fact, history tells us that the first Pride March in Asia was held right here in Quezon City 31 years ago,” she said.
“Our commitment is real and it is enduring, from the Gender Fair Ordinance of 2014 to pioneering gender inclusive initiatives such as the commitment ceremony for queer couples, graduation rights, and the Right to Care card,” she added.
The LoveLaban sa Diliman, the largest Pride Festival, will take place on March 28, 2025.
