PNP: No problem with Rendon Labador as 'motivational fitness coach' of overweight cops
For as long as the objective is attained, the Philippine National Police (PNP) sees no problem with having social media personality Rendon Labador as the motivational fitness coach of overweight cops.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said she has no personal knowledge of any move to tap Labador as the fitness coach but said any person is welcome to assist in achieving the order of Gen. Nicolas Torre III for all cops to have a sound body.
“We welcome our kababayan, and personalities who signified interest to help in our program of weight reduction. As our Chief PNP said, he would not dictate on what type of exercises would be done for as long as the goal is achieved because this (weight reduction) is also a matter of discipline,” said Fajardo.
Torre earlier warned that he would give a graceful exit to all policemen who would not be able to comply with his directive to be physically fit, or to have a sound body that is acceptable to the public.
Torre even cited Republic Act 6975, or the PNP Law, which states that the policemen should not be more or less than five kilograms of the standard height and weight, adding that gender of the police officer is also considered.
Labador, for his part, said it all started when he was first asked by a police general about the fastest way to reduce weight amid the order of the Chief PNP.
The PNP’s Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) has already posted a 93-day weight loss and fitness challenge in its Facebook page while Labador also posted photos of his visit at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Labador told reporters at Camp Crame that there is a need to come up with a uniform weight loss program for all policemen, a program that will always keep overweight policemen motivated.
And as his first tip for weight reduction, Labador said policemen should limit their rice intake.
“My message to all policemen is for them to take this seriously because you will be dismissed from the service if you fail to do it,” said Labador in Filipino.
“My advocacy is to help them reduce weight and the first thing they should do is to reduce their rice intake,” he added.
