A man died while six others were injured after a trailer container truck struck the Marilao Bridge and caused a vehicular collision along the northbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Bulacan.
The Marilao Police Station (MPS) identified the truck driver as Roy Taporco Macalisang, 31, a resident of Tondo, Manila.
Based on the police report, the incident occurred at around 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at NLEX, in Barangay Patubig, Marilao.
Macalisang was driving a trailer truck alongside an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) being driven by Christopher Dave De Guzman Allan.
Both vehicles were headed north when the top of the container van struck the underside of the Marilao Bridge.
The strong impact caused a girder to detach and fall onto the AUV, which forced the vehicle to swerve uncontrollably, flip over, and land on its side facing the opposite direction.
All six people inside the AUV sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to Joni Villanueva Hospital by responders from the Marilao Rescue Ambulance and Sta. Rita Building Management System.
One of the passengers, identified as Bong Chua, was pronounced dead on arrival.
Macalisang was arrested at the scene by NLEX investigator Roderico Manicdo Pingol.
The arrested suspect will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and property damage.
Authorities said a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine further liabilities and to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
