CEBU CITY -- An 18-year-old biker drew heavy backlash for performing a stunt that saw him nearly colliding with a truck on a highway in Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City.
In a bid to identify the biker, an irate Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard Ahong Chan posted the video of the incident on Facebook.
The incident happened on a busy street on Monday night, June 16.
After Chan posted the video on social media, the biker showed up at the mayor's office on Wednesday, June 18, where he profusely apologized.
In the video, the boy, who was with fellow bikers, was seen swerving to the opposite lane, driving so close to an oncoming truck before returning to his lane.
The boy's companions were heard laughing in the background.
Accompanied by his sister, the boy told Chan that he was just forced to perform the stunt after he was goaded by his friends.
“Gara-gara ra to, gisulsulan ra ko sa akong mga kauban nga bikers (It was just a playful act. I was just goaded by my fellow bikers),” the boy said.
The biker said he didn't know that his friends filmed the stunt. He claimed that the he was surprised when the video started circulating online.
Chan disclosed that it wasn’t the first time he had received reports of similar stunts performed by the boy.
Chan chastised the boy during the meeting.
“You endangered not just your life but also the other motorists, Chan told the boy.
The biker said he had been into biking for the past five years and admitted he had performed risky stunts.
The sister told Chan that they have been reprimanding her brother for his risky stunts but the warnings fell on deaf ears.
The sister revealed that the boy was admonished by their father at home when the stunt became viral online.
Chan said the city will no longer take legal action against the biker but warned that repeat of the offense will no longer be tolerated.
