Ju Haknyeon, 26, who was expelled from K-pop group The Boyz, denied paying for sex while he was in Japan in May.
His agency, One Hundred, announced his expulsion and the termination of his exclusive contract on June 18 after reports surfaced that he met a former Japanese adult video actress in Japan last month.
“We immediately took the measure of suspending activities after receiving information that Ju Haknyeon was recently involved in a private life issue, and took the time to thoroughly check the facts,” the agency said.
It added, “As a result, we took the seriousness of the matter into consideration, and we clearly recognized that it is difficult to continue trust as an artist. Accordingly, after sufficient discussion with the members of The Boyz, we have finalized Ju Haknyeon’s withdrawal from the team and termination of his exclusive contract.”
Following the announcement, a Korean media outlet reported that he paid and spent a night with a former Japanese adult video actress.
The report alleged that he met the actress at a private bar in Tokyo in May and offered her money. The actress engaged in prostitution, the report added.

In addition, a producer affiliated with One Hundred was suspended from work due to the issue.
The report claimed that Ju Haknyeon initially denied it but eventually admitted when presented with evidence.
Ju Haknyeon took to Instagram to deny the story.
“First of all , I apologize to all the fans who were surprised by the article about me and to everyone else for causing inconvenience,” he said.
He added, “It is true that I was present at a drinking party with acquaintances in the early hours of May 30, 2025, but I have never engaged in prostitution or any illegal acts as reported in the article or rumors. I am deeply reflecting on my actions and would like to sincerely apologize to those who were surprised.”
Prostitution is illegal in South Korea. Under Article 2 of the Korean law Act on the Punishment of Arrangement of Commercial Sex Acts, any person who engages in prostitution will be punished with imprisonment for not more than one year or a fine not exceeding three million won (about $2,178).
The news report stated that even if Korean nationals engage in prostitution overseas, they are subject to punishment under the domestic law.
