TACLOBAN CITY – A fire hit the Pawing National High School in Barangay Pawing, Palo, Leyte on Wednesday night, June 18.
The fire destroyed the Junior High School faculty room, five Grade 9 classrooms, and a makeshift canteen.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Palo declared the fire under control at about 8:52 p.m. Fire out was announced at 9:08 p.m.
The BFP-Palo promptly responded and was supported by adjacent BFP units.
Damage to property was estimated at P1.2 million. No injuries or casualties were reported.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Residents appealed for assistance from the Department of Education and the local government unit to rebuild the school.
A Department of Education-Leyte official has visited the school to assess assistance.
The nearby Pawing Elementary School is being eyed as possible temporary classroom for displaced students.
