The House of Representatives has received assurance from the concerned government agencies that they will swiftly take down from social media artificial intelligence (AI)-generated posts that will distort President Marcos' message in his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said on Thursday, June 19 that he received such commitment from Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Jay Ruiz, who vowed to coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on the matter.
Well, ang main concern talaga yung address ni Presidente, no? Yun ang concern nung mga participants sa meeting (Well, the main concern really is the President’s address, right? That was the concern of the participants in the meeting). The actual message could be distorted, you know, with the use of AI, Velasco said, referring to an inter-agency meeting last Tuesday.
Because the use of the AI today, these enemies of the state can distort the SONA, no? They can pretend that the president is saying this and that, when in fact it's not true, no? he noted.
So the secretary committed that they'll be making close coordination with the DICT so that if there are any of this posts in social media, they'll immediately take steps to bring it down, to take it down, added Velasco.
The House is the main organizer of President Marcos' fourth SONA, which he will deliver before a joint session of Congress on July 28.
So the press secretary is ready and, you know, preparing the necessary steps to deal with this potential problems, no? Well, let's hope it will not happen but, you know, there are trolls everywhere, influencers, you know? And they could use this advantage, you know, these instruments to propagate fake news and we don't want them to alter the real message of the President, Velasco said.
The secretary general pointed out that not only Filipinos here and abroad would be viewing the SONA, but the international community as well.
