A female medical officer of the New People’s Army (NPA), who is facing a case of crimes against humanity, was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) during an operation in Malimono town of Surigao del Norte.
CIDG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Rolindo M Suguilon said the June 16 operation that led to the arrest of a certain “Jane” was part of the intensified manhunt operations against wanted persons and fugitives across the country.
He said Jane is the subject of six arrest warrants, all in relation to ambushes and gun attacks involving soldiers and civilians in several areas in Mindanao in 2022.
One of the arrest warrants was for violation of the Republic Act No. 9851, or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity.
Enacted into law in 2009, RA 9851 incorporated international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes into the Philippine law.
She also faces charges of murder, arson and frustrated murder.
Suguilon said “Jane” was the platoon medic of Sub-Regional Sentro De Grabidad (SRC Northland) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA and is listed in the Periodic Status Report, 4th Quarter of 2023 of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and tagged as Number 1 Regional Most Wanted Person of Caraga region.
Among the attacks carried out by the group of “Jane”, according to Suguilon, was the ambush on soldiers in Malimono, Surigao del Norte in 2022, and the burning of a dump truck and payloader after the owner allegedly refused to pay revolutionary tax.
