TNT head coach Chot Reyes explained that his outburst during Game 1 of their PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal encounter against Magnolia stemmed from his frustrations over what he deemed as missed calls by the referees last Wednesday, June 18, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Just before the end of the first half of their must-win duel against the Hotshots, Reyes was seen losing his cool, shouting out to the officials, and even kicking the chairs on their bench to show his disappointment against the officiating.
“Sometimes you have to do those things to fire up not only the players but to really let the officials also know how displeased we were with several non-calls,” Reyes explained after their heart-stopping 89-88 win against Magnolia.
After receiving a technical foul before heading to the dugout for the halftime break, Reyes came out composed and collected in the second half as the Tropang 5G held off the gallant stand of the Hotshots thanks to RR Pogoy’s heroics in the fourth that extended their tournament lives.
Reyes emphasized that his experience has taught him how to remain calm under pressure.
“I know that I can have outbursts of emotion like that but what I’ve learned over the years is to coach through that and to make sure that my thinking and my thought process is still very clear,” he added.
The Tropang 5G are gearing up for their sudden-death showdown against the Hotshots this Saturday, June 21, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
