Auditions for 'Bagets: The Musical' set

A new chapter in Philippine theater is about to begin as Viva Communications Inc., The Philippine STAR, Newport World Resorts, and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) collaborate to present Bagets: The Musical on stage.
This stage adaptation of the iconic 1984 Filipino coming-of-age film will premiere in Q1 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
“Bagets,” the original film, captured the hearts of Filipinos with its vibrant portrayal of 1980s Manila and its timeless themes of friendship and self-discovery. Featuring Aga Muhlach, William Martinez, J.C. Bonnin, Herbert Bautista, and Raymond Lauchengco, the film has become a cultural touchstone, with its energy and music continuing to resonate today.
PETA is known for its innovative and socially conscious productions, including the long-running “Rak of Aegis” and “One More Chance: The Musical.” It now brings its signature artistry to this exciting new adaptation.
Under the expert leadership of PETA President Melvin Lee and Executive Director Anj Heruela, both veterans with extensive experience in theater and arts management, “Bagets: The Musical” promises a dynamic fusion of nostalgia and modern theatrical sensibilities.
PETA stalwart Maribel Legarda directs the musical, celebrated for her work on *Rak of Aegis* and other groundbreaking productions, and written by J-mee Katanyag, PETA’s Artistic Director and award-winning playwright. Katanyag's script will reimagine the beloved story with fresh, socially relevant insights.
Asked if some of the original cast would be invited to be part of the play, organizers said: Why not? We have discussed that. But we will see. It's possible.
Auditions for “Bagets: The Musical” will be held from late July to early August 2025, offering a new generation of talent the chance to participate in this cultural milestone.
This powerful collaboration promises a vibrant celebration of Filipino youth, nostalgia, and artistry, poised to captivate both old and new audiences, said Baby Gil, of Viva Entertainment, during the press launch held in Pasig City.
