Ju Haknyeon, a member of K-pop boy band The Boyz, was removed from the group after he met a former Japanese adult video actress in May.
On June 18, The Boyz’s new agency, One Hundred, announced Ju Haknyeon’s expulsion and the termination of his exclusive contract.
“We immediately took the measure of suspending activities after receiving information that Ju Haknyeon was recently involved in a private life issue, and took the time to thoroughly check the facts,” it said.
It added, “As a result, we took the seriousness of the matter into consideration, and we clearly recognized that it is difficult to continue trust as an artist. Accordingly, after sufficient discussion with the members of The Boyz, we have finalized Ju Haknyeon’s withdrawal from the team and termination of his exclusive contract.”
Last June 16, it was announced that he would temporarily suspend activities due to personal reasons.
Korean media outlet News1 reported that Ju Haknyeon had a private meeting with former adult video actress Asuka Kirara at a private bar in Tokyo, Japan, in late May. Asuka Kirara debuted as an adult video actress in 2007, retired in 2020 and is currently working as an influencer.
The report added that Ju Haknyeon visited a bar in Roppongi, Japan with Japanese acquaintances on May 29. He and Asuka Kirara allegedly hugged and had physical contact. They drank until the early hours of the morning.
“We ask for your deep understanding that this decision is an inevitable measure to protect the members of The Boyz and the team. We would like to inform you that Ju Haknyeon has ended all activities as a member of The Boyz as of today,” One Hundred added.
It said, “One Hundred will spare no effort and support so that the remaining members of The Boyz can continue to promote healthily without wavering. We sincerely apologize once again for causing concern to fans, and we will do our best to repay you with better news in the future.”
Ju Haknyeon was a contestant on the survival audition show “Produce 101” season 2 before debuting in The Boyz in December 2017.
He is the second member of The Boyz to leave the group after Hwall in 2019.
The Boyz ended their contract with IST Entertainment and transferred to One Hundred last year.
