- The teen driver and his four friends involved in the fatal Tagaytay crash were recent senior high school graduates who had reportedly been drinking together before the accident that killed three.
CAVITE – The five teens involved in a minivan-car collision in Tagaytay City that killed three people on Tuesday, June 17, had just come from a drinking session, police said.
At around 12:50 a.m. on the day of the accident, a minivan driven by an 18-year-old male swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming car, killing the driver and his two passengers, one of whom was a pregnant woman.
“Bale sila po ay magka-classmate na kaga-graduate lang po ng senior high school… Nag-hangout lang daw sa isang bahay ng kaibigan (They were classmates who had just graduated from senior high school… They reportedly hanged out at a friend’s house),” investigator-on-case Patrolman Kehnwell C. Causaren told the Manila Bulletin on Wednesday, June 18.

“Based on the passengers, mabilis ang pagpapatakbo at galing sila sa inuman sa Mendez (According to the passengers, the vehicle was speeding, and they had just come from a drinking session in Mendez),” said Tagaytay Component City Police Station Chief Lt. Col. Jefferson P. Ison.
The teen driver, identified only as France, sustained injuries, along with his four passengers: alias Dan, alias Gab, alias Jin, and alias Gabrielle. All five friends are between 17 and 19 years old.
Pregnant woman en route hospital
As the minivan driven by France traveled toward Alfonso, it collided head-on with a car en route to a hospital in Tagaytay.
Inside the car were a three-month pregnant woman, her live-in partner, and a friend who had offered to drive them to the hospital because the woman was feeling unwell.
“Base po sa tatay, maaga pa lang daw, parang masama na panlasa ng anak niyang babae, masama na pakiramdam. Siguro nung madaling araw, nagpasama na sa ka-live-in niya, nakisuyo sa isa, sinamahan na (The victim’s father said his daughter had been feeling unwell earlier in the day. In the early hours of the morning, she asked her live-in partner to accompany her and sought help from a friend, who offered to drive them to the hospital),” Causaren said.
