TACLOBAN CITY — Sogod, Southern Leyte Mayor Sheffered Lino Tan has confirmed the first monkeypox (Mpox) case in the municipality.
The first Mpox case in Eastern Visayas is a 28-year-old female with no travel history.
She has fully recovered and her symptoms have been managed.
Tan disclosed that the patient first exhibited symptoms in May.
She was immediately isolated and monitored while local health officials conducted contact tracing.
Municipal Health Officer Isabelita Mato said that the confirmatory result was received two weeks after sending a swab sample to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
Tan urged the public not to panic and sought their support and cooperation for healthcare workers.
The LGU has created a task force to control and prevent the disease from spreading.
They urged hospitals to report if they monitor patients showing symptoms of Mpox.
