House Speaker Martin Romualdez has personally assured the wife of slain Director Mauricio “Morie” Pulhin of the House of Representatives’ full institutional support in their family's pursuit of justice.
This, as Romualdez visited Pulhin's wake on Tuesday night, June 17 at Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth, Quezon City.
The House leader extended his condolences to the grieving family of Pulhin, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants during his child’s birthday celebration over the weekend.
Pulhin served as technical staff chief of the House Committee on Ways and Means--one of the more prominent panels in the lower chamber.
During his wake visit Speaker Romualdez and the Pulhin family were briefed by Police Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, officer-in-charge of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD); and Police Lt. Col. Romil Avenido, Station Commander of Batasan Police Station 6 regarding the developments of the case.
“Morie was a quiet, hardworking professional—someone who served the House with diligence and loyalty. The manner of his death was senseless and deeply disturbing,” Romualdez said.
“We will not stop until the perpetrators—and those who may be behind them—are identified and held accountable,” added the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president and Leyte 1st district congressman.
Police officials confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to lead the case.
Investigators are currently reviewing closed cricuit television (CCTV) footage, conducting forensic analysis, and interviewing witnesses to establish the identities of the assailants. All possible motives are being explored, including both personal and work-related angles.
“I commend the efforts of QCPD and the officers involved in the early stages of the investigation. But I urge our law enforcement agencies to move with even greater urgency. Justice delayed is justice denied,” Romualdez said.
The Speaker also called on the public to cooperate by providing any information that may help solve the case. “We urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual to come forward. Even the smallest detail could make a difference.
“This crime struck at the heart of the institution. It will not be swept aside. We will pursue justice—for Morie, for his family, and for every public servant who deserves to feel safe in the line of duty,” the Speaker added.
