Negros Occidental PESO activates help desk for OFWs caught in Israel-Iran conflict

BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental is prepared to assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) caught in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday, June 17, that the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has activated its OFW Help Desk to respond to concerns and requests from residents with relatives in the affected areas.
“The help desk is always open, and they are welcome to visit the Capitol building (here) for assistance,” he added.
Lacson expressed hope that world leaders would be able to broker a peaceful resolution to the conflict before it escalates further.
PESO manager Karen Dinsay said the help desk and the Migrant Resource Center also cater to OFWs in Jordan due to its proximity to Israel.
Dinsay said they are currently awaiting guidance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) regarding repatriated OFWs.
With the DMW now offering voluntary repatriation to OFWs affected by the war, PESO is awaiting the list of Negrense workers who have availed of this option.
“So far, there have been no information yet on Negrenses wanting to be voluntarily repatriated,” Dinsay said.
In the meantime, the provincial government will distribute relief goods – including rice and canned goods –while processing financial assistance.
Dinsay said that the province provides P5,000 in financial aid to distressed or displaced OFWs.
She added that they are also awaiting the official list of Negrense OFWs based in Israel from the DMW to get accurate figures.
