DAVAO CITY – The city government of Mati awarded a total of P750,000 in financial assistance to two farmers’ associations to bolster agricultural productivity and promote self-sufficiency.
The Buso Farmers Association Cluster 1 and Cluster 2, each comprising 25 members, received P375,000 each during a formal turnover ceremony on Wednesday morning, June 18.
Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat said in a statement that the initiative is part of the city’s broader commitment to strengthen its agricultural sector and enhance food security on the grassroots level.
Rabat urged farmers to use the money wisely. She encouraged them to see the assistance as a step towards becoming more self-reliant and sustainable.
“It’s time for us to take action. I hope this assistance will empower our farmers to depend more on their hard work and not rely solely on government ayuda (aid),” Rabat said.
She said this financial assistance forms part of the city’s continuing push to empower farming communities through direct assistance and capacity-building programs.
Rabat reaffirmed the city’s dedication to uplifting the agricultural sector. “Sustainable progress can only be achieved when farmers are equipped with resources and the mindset to thrive independently.”
Officials involved in the project’s implementation attended the turnover – Project Development Officer Kaye Marie L. Lao, Provincial Coordinator Jerrybelle Gonzales, and Sustainable Development Area Officer Marjorie Gulatiano.
Rabat said their presence highlights the coordinated efforts between local and provincial stakeholders in driving agricultural development in the city.
They expressed optimism that initiatives like this would improve livelihood and foster a culture of resilience and self-reliance among farmers.
