ACT Teachers Party-list has tagged Vice President Sara Duterte as reigning fake news queen for supposedly propagating and justifying artificial intelligence (AI) in spreading fake news and misinformation.
Both the party-list's outgoing and incoming representatives, France Castro and Antonio Tinio, respectively, hit Duterte for her supposed lies, particularly when she continued to claim that Castro is related by blood to Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Usec. Claire Castro, who has made some unfavorable remarks against the Dutertes.
There is not truth to her claim that I and Usec. Claire Castro are related. This is clear fake news, and for a second highest official in the country, it is an embarrassment), Castro said.
That cannot be considered a harmless slip-up coming from the Vice President herself, according to Tinio.
She has even repeatedly shown a disturbing pattern of inventing stories and disseminating disinformation both on- and off-camera, Tinio said.
She is the reigning 'fake news queen' of the Philippines, he added.
Both Castro and Tinio also criticized Duterte over her remarks that it was acceptable to spread AI-generated content even if it was not true, as long as it was not for profit.
This is a dangerous and irresponsible statement from the Vice President. She is effectively legitimizing the use of fake news and disinformation in public discourse,” Castro warned.
Wala siyang ibang gagawin kundi magsinungaling at magpalusot upang takasan ang pananagutan (If the Vice President herself shamelessly spreads lies in front of the camera and to the people, why else should we expect an answer from her on issues surrounding the P612.5 million confidential funds she spent? She did nothing else but lie and excuse herself from accountability), Tinio said.
“We demand nothing less than honesty, integrity, and transparency from our highest officials. The Filipino people deserve better than a ‘fake news queen’ in public office,” they said.
