ILOILO CITY – The inflation rate in Western Visayas region dropped for the second consecutive month, the Philippine Statistics Authority-6 said.
The agency said the inflation rate dropped 0.3 percent from 1.8 percent in April to 1.5 percent in May.
“The downtrend was mainly due to the slower annual growth in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which was noted at 0.3 percent during the month from 0.7 in April 2025,” said Nida Amolar, PSA-6 officer-in-charge and chief statistical specialist.
Another contributing factor was the drop in the index price of transportation which was recorded at -3 percent from -2.3 percent in April.
The regional capital of Iloilo City had the highest inflation rate in May at 3.3 percent, followed by Iloilo province at 2.8 percent.
The province of Antique recorded the lowest inflation rate last month at -1.3 percent.
Capiz province had an inflation rate of 0.9 percent, 0.8 percent in Guimaras province, and 0.7 percent in Aklan province.
For the first time, PSA-6 no longer included Negros Occidental province and its highly urbanized city of Bacolod as they now belong to the Negros Island Region.
