The registered owner and the driver of a pick-up caught on video aggressively blocking a passenger bus along a public highway were summoned by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said a show cause order (SCO) was issued after the vehicle, a Toyota Hilux with license plate EAE 6704, was identified in a viral video that circulated on social media.
The pick-up was seen repeatedly preventing the bus from overtaking—an act Mendoza described as a grave display of abuse and lack of discipline that endangered other road users.
The incident prompted swift action from the agency, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold accountable individuals who compromise public road safety.
Authorities are verifying whether the registered owner, a resident of Bato, Camarines Sur, was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.
He has been ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City on June 20.
He is also required to submit a written explanation as to why he should not be held liable for reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136.
In addition, he must explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate motor vehicle.
The Toyota Hilux has been placed under alarm status to prevent any transaction involving the vehicle while the investigation is ongoing.
