Simply put, Senator Ronald Bato dela Rosa is propagating a lie if he is fully aware of sharing on his social media a fake video assailing Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment case.
Lawyer Antonio Bucoy, House prosecution panel spokesman, had this to say in a press conference Tuesday, June 17.
Bucoy was referring to a controversial post made by Dela Rosa, who shared a link to an articificial intelligence (AI)-generated video of students who were against the impeachment trial of his ally, Vice President Duterte.
The video has been flagged by fact-checkers and media watchdogs as a fabrication.
The impeachment spokesperson for the House prosecution panel criticized Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for circulating artificial intelligence-generated content against the impeachment of VP Sara Duterte, calling it a deliberate spread of disinformation that reveals political bias.
“Kaya ho merong isasabatas against fake news. Meron hong samahan ‘yung Movement Against Disinformation. Ang target po niyan, among others ay ‘yung mga fake media productions gaya po ng AI,” Bucoy said.
(That's why there will be a law against fake news. There's an organization called the Movement Against Disinformation. Among other things, its target includes fake media productions, such as AI.)
Kung alam po ni Senator Dela Rosa na fake ‘yun (If Senator Dela Rosa knew it was fake), he’s propagating a lie, the lawyer-spokesman underscored.
Moreover, the senator's move betrayed his bias in the Senate impeachment trial.
“The message doesn’t matter. If the source is fake, how can you rely on the message? Hindi po ba? Kung polluted ‘yung source, eh ‘di polluted ‘yung message. So, pure propaganda. It only emphasizes the bias,” Bucoy added.

When asked about the senator’s seeming indifference on the matter, Bucoy said it would be up to the people to judge him.
“Well, if he doesn’t care then huhusgahan siya ng bayan (the people will judge him). Pag takbo niya sa susunod, hindi na siya iboboto (the people won't vote for him if he runs again)...It’s political suicide.
