Former Negros Oriental representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. was taken to a government hospital due to severe stomach pain, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
In a statement, BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said that at around 7 p.m. of June 16, Teves was observed with initial symptoms prompting the jail nurse to administer appropriate first aid and medication.
When Teves’ condition failed to improve, the BJMP roving physician recommended his immediate transfer to the nearest public hospital for further medical intervention.
Currently, Teves is in the emergency room ward as of 9 a.m., where he is undergoing evaluation and treatment.
In line with high-profile persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) protocols, the BJMP noted that security measures were significantly heightened.
The BJMP added that it had also coordinated with relevant security forces to ensure the safety of all concerned.
Further, Bustinera stressed that the BJMP adheres strictly to the no “VIP (very important person) treatment’’ protocol most especially to high-profile inmates like Teves.
Teves is facing murder charges for the killing of former Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and nine others on March 4, 2023.
