Rain showers, thunderstorms to prevail over parts of the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, June 16 that the easterlies and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring rain showers and thunderstorms across several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
Residents in these areas are warned of flash floods and landslides, which may occur especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the ITCZ will continue to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over most of Mindanao.
The ITCZ is a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, which leads to the formation of rain clouds.
By Tuesday, June 17, Villamil said the ITCZ is no longer expected to affect any part of the country.
Villamil said that from Tuesday to Wednesday, June 18, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought by the easterlies are likely to continue affecting the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.
From Thursday to Friday, June 19 to 20, weather conditions are expected to improve over Eastern Visayas.
However, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies will persist in the eastern portion of Luzon.
PAGASA added that Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect fair weather in the morning with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening during the forecast period.
