Pregnant woman rescued from attempted jump off Recto Avenue footbridge

false>false>A pregnant woman was prevented from jumping off a footbridge along Recto Avenue on Monday morning, June 16, by personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Manila Police District (MPD). 

According to authorities, the woman, 19, was visibly distressed and accompanied by her two young children when she climbed onto the bridge railings, drawing immediate concern from pedestrians and bystanders.
Witnesses alerted nearby authorities, prompting a swift response from traffic enforcers and police officers stationed in the area.
Rescuers managed to persuade the woman to step away from the edge. 
She told the authorities that her husband had reportedly told her earlier that day that he wanted to end their relationship.
The husband arrived shortly after the situation escalated and spoke to his wife under police supervision.
No one was reported hurt during the incident. 
Authorities are reminding the public to reach out to crisis hotlines or local social welfare offices when facing emotional or mental distress.
