Filipino darters Lourence Ilagan and Paolo Nebrida’s impressive winning came to an end as the duo yielded to Wales’ Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price, 8-2, in the second round of the 2025 PDC World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, Germany over the weekend.
Coming off a 4-3 upset win over Belgian pair Mike De Decker and Dimitri Van den Bergh, Ilagan and Nebrida did try their best but the two-time tournament champions were simply too sharp for them, swiftly wrapping up their best-of-15 showdown.
The Welsh duo continued their splendid showing until they reached the final but they bowed to Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney in a hill-hill title clash, 10-9.
Ilagan and Nebrida, for their part, earned €9,000 (more than half a million peso) consolation prize.
The unseeded Filipino bets secured their spot in the next round after topping the Group B with a 2-0 win-loss record.
Those victories were at the expense of Latvia (4-2), and No. 6 Belgium (4-3), and amazingly, both games happened last Friday, June 13.
It was a similar scenario for the Philippines as two years ago, Ilagan teamed up with country’s top-notch darter Christian Perez of Koronadal City.
They fell short in the Final 16 after sustaining an 8-5 beating from Scotland’s Peter Wright and Gary Anderson.
