Manila launches 'Diskwento Caravan: Balik Eskwela Edition' to offer affordable school supplies

In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), the Manila City government officially launched the “Diskwento Caravan: Balik Eskwela Edition” on Monday, June 16.
The initiative, held at the inner court of Manila City Hall, aims to provide city residents, government employees, teachers, and school personnel with access to affordable school supplies and basic goods as the new academic year begins.
Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan encouraged the public, especially residents of Manila, to take advantage of the caravan, which offers a wide range of discounted items, including notebooks, writing materials, school bags, and uniforms.
The price reductions are implemented under Department Order No. 12, series of 2025, in collaboration with the national government.
DTI Secretary Cristina Aldeguer-Roque and DepEd representatives also graced the launch of the event, showing their support for the city’s initiative to make education more accessible amid rising costs.
Isang taos-pusong pasasalamat ang ipinaaabot ng pamahalaang-lungsod ng Maynila sa DTI at DepEd para sa matagumpay na pagsasagawa ng Diskwento Caravan – Balik Eskwela Edition dito sa ating lungsod (The Manila City Government extends its heartfelt thanks to the DTI and DepEd for the successful launch of the Diskwento Caravan – Balik Eskwela Edition here in our city), the mayor said.
Ang inisyatibong ito ay tunay na nakatulong sa ating mga magulang at estudyante sa paghahanda para sa pagbubukas ng klase (This initiative has truly helped our parents and students prepare for the upcoming school year), she added.
According to the DepEd, School Year 2025–2026 officially begins on June 16, 2025, and ends on March 31, 2026.
The Diskwento Caravan is expected to visit various barangays in Manila in the coming days, bringing much-needed relief to families as they prepare for the start of classes.
