A 53-year old foreigner who is wanted in South Korea for fraud was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in an operation in Opol, Misamis Oriental.
CIDG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon said the 53-year old “Jang” was collared on June 13 using a Red Notice from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for violations of Articles 3 and 11 (Fraud) of the Punishment of Tax Offenses Act of South Korea.
Suguilon said the arrested foreigner was immediately turned over to the Bureau of Immigration which is expected to arrange his deportation.
The official said the arrest of the foreigner sends a strong message that the country is not safe for fugitives of the law.
He, however, stressed the importance of cooperation with other government agencies, like the Bureau of Immigration in the case of the arrested Korean.
“This swift and responsive police service that led to the capture of the Korean fugitive underscores the CIDG’s relentless effort in arresting all wanted persons in the country,” said Suguilon.
The CIDG has been aggressive in running after fugitives. On June 10, a total of 46 wanted persons and fugitives were collared in 24-hour operations across the country.
Those arrested face various charges that include murder, rape, arson and estafa.
