The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday, June 15, said that it witnessed a ship boarding exercise by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) in Kagoshima, Japan.
The small board operation and exercise was carried out by the JCG onboard patrol ship PL 69 Koshika last June 13.
The small board operation and exercise is a maritime activity that aims to enhance a coast guard’s skills in maneuvering, boarding procedures, and maritime law enforcement.
It involves training in tactical operations, coordination, and safety protocols using small but fast vessels to improve operational readiness and inter-agency cooperation.
PCG Lieutenant Romanito Mozo thanked the JCG for “sharing valuable knowledge and skills” in small boat operations which, he said, could greatly contribute to the effectiveness of PCG missions.
The PCG deployed BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701) to Kagoshima, Japan for a trilateral exercise with the JCG and United States Coast Guard (USCG).
The week-long exercise will commence on Monday, June 16, and conclude on Friday, June 20.
This is the second trilateral exercise among the three nations’ coast guard. The inaugural drill was held in Mariveles, Bataan in June 2023.
