Government anti-narcotics agents seized on Saturday, June 14, around P29 million worth of shabu following the arrest of an arriving female passenger during a routine inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.
In a statement, PDEA said that 43-year old suspect alias ‘Lyn’ was immediately taken into custody by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) at around 1:35 p.m. after 4,368 grams of suspected shabu, concealed inside her luggage were discovered upon her arrival from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The PDEA noted that the illegal drugs were found packed inside an improvised black duct tape pouch, hidden beneath bundles of clothing, towels, a blanket and a comforter.
Aside from shabu, authorities also found her personal items and travel documents, including a Philippine passport, an identification card, a boarding pass, a baggage declaration form and a mobile phone.
“All of these are now undergoing examination as part of the investigation,’’ the PDEA said, adding that the confiscated drugs were turned over to the PDEA Laboratory Service for confirmatory testing.
The suspect faces charges for violation of Section 4 (importation of dangerous drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.’’
