Presidential son Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos and his fellow Young Guns bloc members were praised for making their mark in the just-concluded 19th Congress.
Giving props to Rep. Marcos and company was no less than House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who gave a speech in plenary during the final session day on June 11.
Rep. Marcos, 31, served as the senior deputy majority leader during the 19th Congress.
To our Young Guns — special shoutout to our SDML, congressman Ferdinand [Alexander Sandro] Marcos--our young lawmakers who brought innovation, passion, and purpose to this chamber, Romualdez said.
You have proven that the future of the House is bright. You showed that courage has no age, and that fresh ideas can thrive within the walls of tradition, Romualdez added as Rep. Romualdez raised his hand to acknowledge the glowing remarks.
“Ang kabataan ng Kamara, hindi lang pag-asa ng bayan — katuwang na sa paggawa ng pagbabago (The youth in Congress is not just the hope of the nation -- they're also our working partners toward change), the Speaker said.
A clique of relatively untested but promising neophyte legislators, the Young Guns bloc was formed in the 19th Congress and quickly proved that they had the mettle and wherewithal to carry out important legislative tasks and investigations at a time when the institution was under heavy criticism.
Having earned their stripes--and with most gaining a fresh mandate following last month's mid-term elections--the Young Guns are once again in a position to make an impact, this time in the 20th Congress.
