The Las Piñas City Tourism and Cultural Office (LPTCO) commemorated the 126th year of the second “Battle of Zapote Bridge on Friday, June 13.
Paul Ahljay San Miguel, LPTCO head, led the wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the Filipino soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the battle against the Americans.
San Miguel said two historical battles are being remembered at the Zapote Bridge. The first occurred between the Spaniards and Filipino Katipuneros in 1897 during the Philippine Revolution, while the second, larger battle took place in 1899 between the Americans and Filipinos.
He said the wreath-laying was held to honor the sacrifices of Filipino heroes and their role in the fight for Philippine Independence.
The official also noted that Zapote Bridge is one of the historical landmarks preserved by the city government.
