Although no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area (LPA) is currently within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), rains are still expected in parts of the country due to prevailing weather systems, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, June 14.
“Wala na tayong mino-monitor na bagyo o low-pressure area sa loob at labas ng ating area of responsibility (We are no longer monitoring any typhoon or low-pressure area within and outside our area of responsibility),” PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda reported.
However, she said that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a band of converging winds near the equator, continues to affect parts of the country.
“Ngunit makakaranas pa rin ng pag-ulan ang buong bahagi ng Mindanao at Eastern Visayas dulot po ito ng inter tropical convergence zone or ITCZ (However, the entire Mindanao and Eastern Visayas will still experience rains due to the intertropical convergence zone),” she explained.
Castañeda clarified that the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is not currently influencing any part of the country.
“Samantala, hindi rin nakakaapekto ang southwest monsoon or habagat sa ano mang bahagi ng ating bansa (Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is not affecting any part of the country),” she noted.
Instead, easterlies, warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, are dominant over most parts of Luzon and some areas in the Visayas.
“At easterlies po ang umiiral dito sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon maging sa ilang areas pa ng Visayas (Easterlies are prevailing over most parts of Luzon and also in some areas in the Visayas),” Castañeda stated.
She added that the same weather system will bring overcast skies and a high chance of rainfall to parts of extreme Northern Luzon.
“Magdudulot rin po ang easterlies ngayong araw ng maulap na kalangitan at mataas na tyansa ng mga pag-ulan dito sa bahagi ng extreme northern Luzon (The easterlies today will also bring cloudy skies and a high likelihood of rain over parts of extreme northern Luzon),” she said.
