BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Bacolod Division has recorded 94,338 enrollees in 199 public and private schools here for this school year as of Friday, June 13.
DepEd-Bacolod spokesperson Education Program Specialist II RJ Paglomutan said that 47,738 males and 46,600 females have enrolled from June 9 to 13.
He said that this is a 30 to 40 percent increase in enrollment this year, compared to last year's 60,000 to 70,000.
Paglomutan said that there are private schools that just completed last year’s school year and would start classes for this school year next month.
Last year, Paglomutan said that about 125,000 students enrolled here and they are hoping that they will surpass the record this year as enrollment is still ongoing.
He said that schools are prepared for the opening of classes as Brigada Eskwela kicked off early this week.
This highly-urbanized city has enough classrooms to accommodate the influx of students.
Paglomutan said that some students may experience overcrowding due to circumstances, but they have been anticipated, and school leaders have prepared remedies to address the situation.
He said that old buildings can be used and modified depending on the assessment of the structures to continue students’ learning.
The top five schools here with many students are Bacolod City National High School, Handumanan National High School, Sum-ag National High School, Luis Hervias National High School, and Luisa Medel National High School.
