Ten persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) with terrorism-related cases were released from the Metro Manila jail facilities as part of the government’s “After-Care Program,’’ the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region (BJMP) stated.
In a statement, BJMP-NCR Director Chief Supt. Clint Russel Tangeres said nine of the newly released PDLs were former Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members while the other belonged to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) group.
In the recent send-off ceremony, the BJMP-NCR and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) wished the outgoing detainees good luck as they head towards the waiting arms of their beloved ones, all ready for community reintegration.
Tangeres explained that the send-off program is part of the government’s efforts to bring back the lost hope, honor and dignity of the PDLs.
During the ceremony, Tangeres urged the former PDLs to “cherish this fresh start and to value their newfound freedom outside the jail walls.’’
“On behalf of our esteemed Jail Director, Ruel Rivera at ng buong Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, isang malaking karangalan at taos-pusong pasasalamat ang aking ipinapaabot sa inyong lahat ngayong araw habang ating ipinagdiriwang ang isa na namang mahalagang hakbang sa ating paglalakbay tungo sa kapayapaan, pagbabago, at pagbibigay ng pangalawang pagkakataon (and the entire Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), it is a huge honor and heartfelt thanks to all of you on this day as we celebrate another major step in our journey towards peace, chance and for another opportunity),’’ Tangeres said.
Tangeres, OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez and Metro Manila District Jail (MMDJ) warden Chief Insp. Isnard Sempuego among others attended the ceremony.
