Three hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City were transferred last Friday, June 13, to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro.
The transfer was in line with the decongestion program at NBP which would soon be transformed into a government center, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
The BuCor also said the transfer is also aimed at augmenting the agricultural programs of its operating prison and penal farms that need the services of PDLs for their livelihood and reformation.
With the transfer of 300 PDLs, a total of 11,227 PDLs had been transferred to other facilities outside of NBP.
The BuCor said the recent transfer was coordinated by about 100 corrections officers, including members of the escort unit and the Philippine National Police.
BuCor Director General Gregorio P. Catapang Jr. said that coordinated efforts of different government agencies are “crucial” in the transfer, not just for the safety of the PDLs but also for maintaining public order.
