Murder suspect killed in Quezon shootout

SAN ANTONIO, Quezon – A murder suspect was killed and two companions were arrested in an encounter with the police on Independence Day in Barangay Arawan, this town.

The fatality was identified as Aniceto, 39, of Balayan, Batangas. Apprehended were Gonzalo, 38, of Balayan, and Jay-R, 38, of Barangay Arawan.

They allegedly killed 23-year-old John Hubert Cruz of Lipa City, Batangas, who was found lying with multiple bullet wounds on the Lipa-Alaminos Bypass Road in Barangay Santa Rosa, Alaminos, Laguna, on June 10.

Lawmen were approaching the suspects onboard a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Vios during a follow-up operation when Aniceto alighted from the Toyota Corolla and opened fire with a 9mm caliber pistol.

Police returned fire and Aniceto was wounded in the right arm. He was taken to a hospital in San Pablo City, Laguna, where he was declared dead.

Aniceto’s companions were arrested.

Recovered from the suspects were the two cars, guns, and bullets.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
