ILOILO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-6 is leading preparations for the hosting of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Festival in this city from Aug. 11 to 13.

With the theme “Coding a Better Future: Responsible AI for Cities and Communities,” the three-day event is set to promote a responsible and ethical use of AI.
DOST-6 Regional Director Rowen Gelonga said the event is part of the 2025-2030 AI Development Action Plan of Western Visayas, which had its soft launching last February.
Gelonga noted that only Western Visayas has developed an AI Action Plan which targets to maximize the use of AI while addressing concerns.
DOST Assistant Regional Director Keithlyn Sarah Bernardino emphasized the AI Festival is also part of positioning Western Visayas as an AI hub in the country.
The DOST-6 is partnering with UMWAD Western Visayas Consortium, the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), West Visayas State University (WVSU), and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI-Iloilo Chapter) for the national event.
The AI Festival will have key four events: AI Hackathon, AI Technical Conference, Sine AI, and AI Exhibits.
Rayjand Gellamucho of UMWAD and ISAT U said that the hackathon will be an avenue for new innovations and solutions created with the aid of AI.
Dr. Maria Beth Concepcion of WVSU said the Sine AI will have workshops and outputs in using AI in filmmaking and other creative industries.
Francis Gerona said PCCI Iloilo Chapter will handle the AI Exhibits which will showcase how AI can be used as a tool to boost businesses.
