Aribado, Begornia barge into quarterfinals of Malaysia squash meet

Jemyca Aribado and Reymark Begornia overcame their foes in their respective categories to barge into the quarterfinal round of the 2025 PSNS President's Trophy at S2 Sports Complex in Seremban, Malaysia Thursday, June 12.

Aribado dominated in her second-round duel against South Korea’s Chaewon Song, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9, to advance to the women’s quarters where she squares off with another Korean in Hwayeong Eum.

Eum, for her part, took an early bye in the opener then toppled Malaysian Whitney Isabelle Wilson (12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8) in the second round.

The seasoned Filipina hitter also earned a bye in the first round of the four-day long competition.

Meanwhile, Begornia survived hometown bet Shamiel Haeyzad in the second round, 11-8, 5-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3, to book his quarters ticket.

Begornia is set to challenge Canadian Karim Aquib, who thwarted Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy via a 12-14, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 win.

The Taytay, Rizal native also had a first-round bye.
