A total of 3,364 applicants were hired on the spot during nationwide job fairs organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
DOLE, citing a preliminary report from the Bureau of Local Employment, said 25,876 job seekers registered across 50 job fair sites set up by its regional offices in coordination with Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs).
At least 1,573 employers participated in the event, offering 153,187 local and overseas vacancies in high-demand positions such as cashier, service crew, production operator, ESL teacher, bagger, sales associate, clerk, production crew, loan officer, and store clerk.
Along with those hired on the spot, 4,676 applicants were classified as near-hires, pending final interviews or submission of requirements, while 21,419 were assessed as qualified for the positions offered.
According to the labor department, the initiative forms part of the Marcos administration’s efforts to expand employment opportunities, particularly for first-time job seekers and vulnerable sectors.
Among those hired were 274 senior high school graduates, one person with a disability, 10 Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) beneficiaries, 55 private company interns, and 37 Government Internship Program (GIP) participants.
Aside from job facilitation, the fairs featured a one-stop shop of government services to assist applicants in securing pre-employment requirements and accessing livelihood and skills training programs.
DOLE reported that 1,150 individuals received career guidance, while 940 expressed interest in skills training.
In addition, 323 availed of livelihood support, 79 explored entrepreneurship programs, and 9,142 accessed frontline services from agencies such as Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Security System (SSS), and PhilHealth.
The department said it is still validating the results and expects the number of hired applicants to increase as final reports from regional offices come in.
A follow-up job fair is scheduled on June 19 at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati.
