Vice President Sara Duterte has celebrated Independence Day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and among the personalities who came with her was Senator Imee Marcos.

In her speech, she repeatedly mentioned the presidential sister. One of the several shoutouts was when she praised her Filipiniana dress, and the other was when she jokingly called her a "hostage."
The Vice President was mentioning her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for charges against humanity, when she made the statement.
Duterte said what happened to her father was "unthinkable." She said she was ashamed of what the government did to its former leader.
In jest, she said she would only let go of Senator Imee, sister of President Marcos, once her father is back in Davao.
"Inimbita ko si Senator Imee Marcos, kung saan man ako pumupunta, dinadala dala ko siya kasi sinasabi ko sa kanya: hindi ako ang magbabalik kay dating pangulong Duterte sa Pilipinas. Dahil ang kapatid mo ang nagpadala sa kanya sa Hague, ikaw ang magbabalik sa kanya sa Pilipinas (I am inviting Senator Imee Marcos, I bring her wherever I go because I am telling her: I will not be the one bringing former president Duterte to the Philippines. Because your brother brought him to the Hague, you will be the one bringing him to the Philippines)," the vice president said.
"Kaya dala dala ko 'yan siya kahit saan, para siyang naka-hostage. Bibitawan ko lang 'yan siya kapag si dating pangulong Duterte ay nabalik na sa Davao City (I bring her everywhere, she is like she's being held hostage. I will only let go of her once former president Duterte is back in Davao City)," she said in jest.
Aside from Marcos, Senator Robin Padilla was also with the Vice President during her event in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, June 12.
Two days ago, both Marcos and Padilla took an oath as judges in Duterte's impeachment trial.
