In his message, the President stressed that independence is not just a historical milestone, but a continuing responsibility that calls for vigilance against threats to democratic rights.
“We must value our heritage by striving for excellence in preserving our rights and freedoms, ensuring that they are used solely for the improvement and protection of our citizenry,” he said.
“So, let us continue to bear the vigor of our ancestors as we defend our nation against those who seek to diminish the strength of our people,” he added.
Marcos said that the selfless sacrifice of the country’s forebears must not be taken for granted, and called on Filipinos to use their abilities “to give more to our nation.”
“Let us honor our priceless freedom by building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by our heroes,” he said.
“Through our collective efforts, we will forge the path of progress, stability, and prosperity for our present and future generations, he added.
The President stressed that patriotism means more than remembering history — it demands action.
“In the spirit of patriotism, let us honor our priceless freedom by building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by our heroes,” he said.
“May you endeavor to enhance your abilities and character to give more to our nation,” he added.
President Marcos paid tribute to the country’s heroes who fought for freedom and nationhood more than a century ago when the Philippine flag was first raised in Kawit, Cavite.
“The journey to reach that moment was long, arduous, and costly, requiring the sacrifice of selfless individuals for over a century,” he said.
“Because of their heroism, we now enjoy the rights and privileges reserved for those who have a country they can call their own,” he added.
According to the President, the freedom won by the country’s ancestors has inspired generations to devote themselves to the public good.
“This precious gift has also encouraged countless individuals to dedicate their diligence and devotion to their respective fields for the glory of our great nation,” he added.
The Philippines commemorates Independence Day every June 12, marking the declaration of freedom from Spanish colonial rule in 1898.
