'Lamok, hindi tepok?': CIDG seizes fake mosquito repellent coils in Binondo raid
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized over P100,000 worth of fake mosquito repellent coils in a raid in Binondo, Manila.
CIDG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Rolindo M Suguilon said three Chinese and five Filipinos were arrested during the operation based on confirmed intelligence reports about the alleged illegal activity of the group in Barangay 281 in Binondo.
Suguilon said the suspects were collared over complaints that they have been selling fake mosquito repellent coils, which he said, is in violation of Section 155 of Republic Act No. 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
Seized during the operation were 120 boxes of “Wawang” black mosquito repellent incense, with an estimated value of P109,200.
It is not immediately clear, however, if the seized mosquito repellent is as effective as the original one.
But regardless of quality, Suguilon said the operation emphasized the protection and security of the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations.
“This underscores our commitment in enforcing the law and going after its violators. With the arrest of the suspects we significantly prevented crimes and violation of law,” he said.
