Award-winning Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid said it would be a challenge to do a project on Filipino heroes Andres Bonifacio or Lapu-lapu.
Ruru made the revelation during an interview as his action-packed series "Lolong: Pangil ng Maynila" gears up for the finale on GMA Primetime on June 13.
Asked about his dream project, Ruru said: "Dream role is makagawa ng isang project tungkol sa isang bayani. Either Andres Bonifacio or Lapu-lapu. Gusto kong makagawa ng isang biopic na bayani natin sa Pilipinas. (My dream role would be to do a project about a hero. Either Andres Bonifacio or Lapu-lapu. I want to do a biopic about our hero in the Philippines.)"
After winning Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival for "Green Bones," Ruru stated that he is not a perfectionist when it comes to acting. "I wouldn't say I'm a perfectionist. Para sa akin wala namang perfect and there's no certainty when it comes to acting. Wala namang tao na pwedeng magsabi na ito ang tamang emotion. As long as nararamdaman mo yung eksena, I think yun talaga ang goal. Hindi para maging mabusisi or technical kundi hanapin ang bawa't eksena na ginagawa natin. (For me there's no such thing as perfect and there's no certainty when it comes to acting. No one can say that this is the right emotion. As long as you feel the scene, I think that's really the goal. Not to be meticulous or technical but to look for every scene that we do.)"
Ruru also said that he's not choosy when it comes to roles, although he admitted he would prepare projects that would challenge him as an actor.
"It's not about being choosy kundi sinasala mo lang. Kapag actor ka, you always want to challenge yourself na maging better kang artista. So hinahanap ko ngayon yung mga character na ma-cha-challenge ako bilang isang tao. (It's not about being choosy, but rather about filtering it.) When you're an actor, you always want to challenge yourself to be a better artist. So now I'm looking for characters that will challenge me as a person)," he said.
Ruru also recalled the challenges he encountered during the taping for "Lolong."
"Siguro ang most challenging scene ay yung may torture scene. Then mga fight scenes mula umaga hanggang madaling araw. Nagkaroon din ako ng injury. Then kahit na injured ako kailangan pa rin namin mag-taping. (Maybe the most difficult was the one with the torture scene. Then the fight scenes from morning until dawn. I also had an injury. Then, even though I was injured, we still had to shoot)," the actor said.
At kahit sino pwedeng maging bayani. Tungkol din ito sa paghahanap ng pag-asa kung paano natin malalabanan ang kasamaan at manaig ang kabutihan. (It was enjoyed by viewers because of the premise that it is about taking care of nature. Just like in season 1. Even though life is simple sometimes, there are savages in society that we must fight. And anyone can be a hero. It is also about finding hope on how we can fight evil and let goodness prevail.)"
Gripping finale
In its gripping finale week, Lolong (Ruru Madrid) will push the limits, putting his life on the line to protect everyone he holds dear. Viewers should brace themselves as Elsie (Shaira Diaz) confronts even more perilous new challenges, once again falling into the terrifying hands of Ivan (Martin del Rosario).
Adding to the excitement, Lolong's extraordinary friend, Dakila, makes a powerful return as the week unfolds, setting the stage for a pivotal turning point in the battle for good.
As the top-rating series draws to a close, Ruru offers viewers an exciting sneak peek into what awaits them during the highly anticipated finale week.
“Very nostalgic kasi parang bumabalik din ‘yung Season 1. May mga eksena kaming ginawa na kung papaano namin shinoot noong Season 1 na kaming dalawa ni Elsie, ngayon nadagdagan na kami. Meron kaming napag-agreehan na isang eksena na parang never ko pang napapanood ‘yon sa tanang buhay ko. (Very nostalgic because it feels like Season 1 is coming back. We did some scenes that we shot in Season 1, just Elsie and I, now we've added more. We agreed on a scene that I've never seen in my entire life)," said the Primetime Action Hero.
Beyond the action, Ruru shared Lolong's influence on his personal life, crediting the series for shaping him into a tougher and more resilient artist. “Etong Lolong ‘yung nagpabago talaga sa buhay ko – hindi lang sa pagiging artista, kundi sa pagiging tao. Sa kabila ng lahat ng binabato sa’yo ng mundo, na bigla kang magkaka-injury, biglang magkaka-pandemic, biglang magkakaroon ng kung ano mang aksidente – ‘yun ‘yung mga nagsisilbing lakas sa akin sa akin para lalong pagbutihin ang mga ginagawa ko. (This series really changed my life – not just as an artist, but as a person. Despite everything the world throws at you, that you suddenly get injured, suddenly have a pandemic, suddenly have some kind of accident – those are the ones who serve as strength for me to do better in what I do.)
A crocodile-themed action-adventure drama series, “Lolong” centers on a man's extraordinary friendship with a giant crocodile named Dakila. In “Lolong: Pangil ng Maynila,” viewers were able to witness a new chapter in Lolong's life as he plunged into a whirlwind of unpredictable twists and turns in the heart of Manila.
