“The Office of the Vice President confirms receipt of the summons issued by the Senate Impeachment Court at around 11:05 a.m. today,” a brief statement from Vice President Sara Duterte’s office read.
It refused to respond to queries asking for comments about the events in the Senate on Tuesday night, June 10, wherein the senator-judges remanded the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives in a vote of 18-5-0.
But Senate President Francis Escudero, the presiding officer of the impeachment court, also issued the summons against the Vice President.
In the summons, the Senate impeachment court enumerated the seven articles of impeachment against Duterte.
The summons read that Duterte must file her answer to the accusations within a non-extendible period of 10 days from the receipt of the summons.
She is likewise being ordered to appear before the Senate impeachment court at a date and time to be set by the presiding officer.
But in a media advisory on Tuesday morning, June 10, the OVP said that Duterte has a “personal trip” with her family to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She, however, will conduct official duties as a Vice President by attending the Independence Day celebration and an OVP program consultation with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on June 12.
