Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña has called on his fellow House members to come together against the Senate's alleged abuse of power when it ignored the Constitution to "delay" and "sabotage" the impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Cendaña on Wednesday, June 11, said the Senate impeachment court "grossly overreached its powers" when it illegally remanded the articles of impeachment back to the House. 

"I stand firm with my fellow members of the House of Representatives against this blatant disrespect by the Senate," he said.

"Nakakahiya ang kanilang pambabaluhura sa Konstitusyon para lang idelay at isabotahe ang impeachment process (Their blatant disregard for the Constitution is shameful, all for the sake of delaying and sabotaging the impeachment process)," he added.

The progressive lawmaker said the Senate members' move was a huge letdown, 

"Noong una, 'forthwith' tapos 'convene' hanggang 'return' naman. Pinaglalaruan na lang ng Senado ang kanilang Constitutional duty na parang scrabble. Nagpapauso ng mga salita para lang makatakas sa kanilang tungkulin (First they were mentioning the terms 'forthwith', then 'convene', then 'return'. The Senate is just playing their Constitutional duty as if it's just a scrabble. They're only making up terms just to excuse themselves from their duties)," he said.

Cendaña also hit Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero when he criticized the House members for sitting on the initial impeachment complaints and then rushing the Senate to process the transmitted articles of impeachment.

He said House members merely observed due process as they took time to review the impeachment articles.

"Kinukwestyon ng senado ang naging trabaho namin sa pagbuo at pagpasa ng articles of impeachment pero ang totoo sila ang tumatakas sa responsibilidad, sa mandato ng konstitusyon (The Senate is questioning our job when we drafted and transmitted the articles of impeachment. But in fact, they are the ones running away from their responsibilities and their Constitutional mandates)," he said.

“Binasa namin ang articles of impeachment bago ito aprubahan. Ginawa namin ang due diligence namin bago ito isumite sa Senado. Hindi ito isyu ng pagkukulang ng Kamara kundi isyu ng kaduwagan ng Senado (We read the articles of impeachment before its approval. We did our due diligence before submitting it to the Senate. This is no longer the issue of the House of Representatives, but the cowardice of the Senate),” he added.

Cendaña also said the senators defrauded the Filipino people, and in the process exposed where their true loyalties were.
